DIY Forum > Sound insulating roof
Hi
Have a look at this link and when I get back this evening I will do a quick diagram.
Hi
Thanks for the link. I haven't had a chance to take a good look yet but at first glance it looks like it could be useful.

As promised but a little late.
A quick drawing to try and explain a little better
The new cross battening to be screwed to the existing rafters not nailed. Nailing may cause the roof tiles to come lose and full off.
The size of the cross battens will depend on the thickness of sound insulation quilt.
As a guide the denser something is the more sound proof it is so you could put two layers of plasterboard. But remember that every m2 of 12.5mm plaster board weighs 11.2kg

Hi,
First timer and have an unusual question i think. I live in the top floor flat of a large house that was converted a few years ago. It is like a loft apartment with the sloping ceilings. There is nothing between the ceiling and the roof, eg no loft space. It's lovely but the only problem is when it rains, the noise from the rain on the tiled roof is very loud. I've lived with this for a while but have decided i want to do something about it. I've spoken to friends and one said i might be able to get the roof sound insulated. Could someone explain this process to me. Is it expensive and is it likely to reduce the noise notably. Are there firms that specialise in this?
I have no real knowledge of this at all so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
