Decorating Forum > watered down emulsion for plaster

i was told not to bother with a sealer on plastered wall but to use watered down emulsion instead. how much watered down should it be. i tried adding a little water but it is not going on easy. if i haven't watered down emulsion enough what will happen to the bit i already painted?

thanks :*)

you want 70% paint 30% water, the plaster sealer is a waste of time, make sure its contract matt emuslion, might be a idea to find your local decorators merchants, and just ask for some contract matt, tell them its just for sealing plaster and you dont want any thing exensive

just make sure it not vinyl matt, any brand will do, as long as its contract.

contract matt will soak into the plaster and let it breath, where vinyl matt will soak in and form a layer that wont let the plaster breath, it just helps the plaster dry off.

it will usally say on the front, or side.
there are people that use vinyl but in my experince its better to use contract, if you still have your recipt for the paint you could take it back, then find out your nearest dulux decorating centre, and get some Glidden contract, it about £15 for ten liters and if the best stuff for sealing plaster, it goes for ever
