Friends and colleagues, Allan McDowall and Peter Ross, raised money to buy tablets to help in the rehabilitation of stroke patients at NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Biggart Hospital.
After seeing their good friend suffer a massive stroke in May this year, Allan and Peter felt powerless to help. Working in the Digital services department at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and being a part time DJ with DEJA2 at the weekends, Peter and Allan decided to hold a live music event.
The event, held in October with band START entertaining the crowd, also had a raffle with prizes donated by family, friends and Grants Distillery, and managed to raise a staggering £675.
Allan said, “After the event, the next step was to find how to best use the money raised so that it would benefit stroke victims and their families with their rehabilitation. This is when we contacted Louise, a Senior Occupational Therapist at Biggart Hospital.
Peter added, “We donated money ourselves and used the money raised at the event to purchase two Samsung S series tablets, with shockproof cases and extended warranties. We really hope Louise and the team find them invaluable and they go on to help rebuilding many lives affected by stroke.
Louise Tudor, Senior Occupational therapist with NHS Ayrshire & Arran said, “We are very grateful to Allan and Peter for taking the time to raise money and for their kind donation of the two Samsung tablets.
“The tablets will provide great value in aiding with the assessment process and the rehabilitation journey of stroke patients on Buchanan Ward at Biggart Hospital. They will also help bring a digital element to our occupational therapy inpatient service, helping move the service further into the digital era.”
